It feels like it’s been a second winter in NYC and I, Gabby, feel like I’ve suffered enough! I walk Sunny almost three miles every morning and am very diligent in spending time with her outside. That said, my blood flow is subpar with Raynaud's (hence why I took the HTMA test I mentioned the other week) and I would like the weather gods to throw us Northeasterners a bone. It’s April and it simply should not be 40 degrees and raining any more.
Anyways, as I trudge through this second winter I thought I’d share a few random thoughts as inspired by
’s Sunday posts that is “off-the-cuff updates I’d bring up over a coffee catch-up with a friend.”The Cut has really been crushing it lately with some absurd content that just draws you in. Think of the trashy, beach reads that you cannot put down. This article about “The Case for Marrying an Older Man” couldn’t be more ridiculous. A friend who is on the single gal journey with me sent it to me thinking it’d be inspirational (without having read it first) and I texted her asking if the writer hit her head. Don’t get me wrong, I probably should end up with someone older and I would like to be taken care of for once in a romantic partnership, but this girl just comes across as…manipulative? Also, she is 27 and writes like she has seen everything and is very wise. New flash, honey, life has yet to begun for you. Please check in with us in 10 years for an update on how it’s going.
My health journey is calling for breakfast! I genuinely feel a difference in my (sugar) cravings when I eat a high protein breakfast. That said, when I embarked on this idea it felt daunting because mornings are usually my busiest time and I wasn’t sure how I’d fit in a breakfast. Here are two things I make for myself, usually on a Sunday, so I have them at hand every morning.
Overnight Chia Seed Pudding: 1 cup almond milk, 2 tablespoons chia seeds, 2 tablespoons hemp hearts, 2 tablespoons flax seeds, 1 scoop of protein powder, 1 teaspoon of cacao nibs and some cinnamon. I then top it with whatever I’m feeling morning of! Pepitas, nuts, berries, anything!
Egg Muffins: I have an air fryer (thankfully since I don’t have a working stove or oven still) and scramble eggs, some goat cheese, red peppers and spinach in a bowl. I pour the mixture into these little muffin containers and pop them in the oven. I can eat them straight out of the fridge or microwave them a bit if I have more time on the mornings I eat them!
I can’t remember how I discovered
, but she is one of a few entrepreneurs who are also on Substack directly. She created Beni, which is a Chrome app I now have that sources clothes from pretty much any site on second-hand sites. Think wanting this La Ligne sweater for Spring and instead using Beni to purchase this one, second hand (yay sustainability) for significantly less! Shopping addiction persists…There is no better way to feel skinny than to get a spray tan, wear oversized pants, or just be happy. I swear, I definitely look 10 lbs lighter with a spray tan to the public. As for oversized pants, this is a trend Jackie was on early that I dismissed and judged her for…until I tried it myself. I am OBSESSED. I’m pear-shaped, so fitted tops and loose bottoms seem to work best for me when I want to feel excited about my outfit. NYT wrote a fun article about oversized pants and I’m now the proud owner of these and these. When it comes to just being happy, I find it truly wild how, if I have a bad day, I feel I look heinous and then the next day I could just wake up in a better mood and feel like all of a sudden my skin is glowing?! We can get more into my body dysmorphia another day.
On the topic of outfits, what the heck does one wear going “out”. I can dress for dinner, but I am at a loss these days of what to wear “out” as a 31-year-old. PLEASE help a girl out with ideas if you have them. I know the era of “going out tops” is apparently back, but a girl doesn’t know how to dress for those experiences anymore. Share anything cute in the comments below!
My TV binging has been out of control during the second winter. I finally watched Shrinking, which was adorable and gave me all the feels. Liz in the show so vividly reminded me of another character from this other show I watched. Turns out her husband was involved with Shrinking and this other show, Cougar Town, where she does also play a silly neighbor. My friends Charlotte & Joe suggested Expats, which I started last night on a girls sleepover with my friend Kacey. Despite falling asleep during the third episode, we agreed it is very good. I’m also re-watching Schitt’s Creek and always cry when Patrick sings at open mic night to David. Should I add musically talented to my manifestation list in future partner traits? My mom texts me at least once a week to remind me to start The New Look. Must get to it apparently!
I’ve learned, as a non-podcast person, it’s better for me to listen via Youtube and sometimes watch the people talk. Clearly, I am a visual learner! I love Gisele Bündchen and listened to her on this podcast. She is just so grounded, bright, warm and has worked so hard to stay true to herself. She is a big meditator and inspires me! My dad is also a Dr. Joe Dispenza fan and I’ve listened to him recently as well. One thing that stuck with me from the episode was a lot of people come to him wanting change when they really need it (think major health issues, physical or mental), but a great time to embark on his guided journeys are also when you are in a really happy, great place. I’m in a happy place, but definitely in need of clarity and want to embrace meditation in this moment.
On the topic of wellness influencers, I’m late in chatting about this, but should we discuss the article on Huberman in NYMag? It totally tears him apart based on the many, overlapping relationships he seems to have had. I don’t think, for me personally, this information discredits him as a scientist and health activist, but it did make me wonder how someone can manage so many different relationships at any given time. Also, not that he was in the right at all in dating multiple women, but I don’t really feel like most of them established their relationships in a conversation with him? There was only one girlfriend who talks about that or did I miss this from others?
Other quick things I’d like to gab away about…

Huberman actively lied to the women and manipulated them. Was trying to have a baby with one. If he’s actively lying about intimate relationships what else is he lying about?
